Fluency Admin 1.0 released

Fluency Admin 1.0 released

Please not that Fluency 1.x is only compatible with blogs running WordPress 2.6.5 or older. Please use Fluency 2 for blogs running WP 2.7+

Ok, so it’s a tiny bit later than I originally promised, but I was hoping that WP2.5 would actually be out on the 10th so that I could give Fluency the once over when running on the final product. But so I don’t keep you all waiting, I’ve run some checks against the latest build (11−03−2008 nightly) and it all looks good. So those of you who are already running the WP2.5 can start using Fluency straight away. No doubt there will probably be more changes between now and the final release of WP2.5 but I work them in as they come.

Features

  • Super easy installation.
  • Smooth grey color scheme (no more blue)
  • Menus rearranged, main menus down left, sub menus across the top
  • WordPress 2.5+ only
  • Have a look at the screen shots here for more detail. Screenshots are now online!

Download and Installation

It really doesn’t get much easier than this, just download the zip file (the link is at the top right of this page, after the jump for my feed readers), extract the contents and upload the whole ‘wp-admin-fluency’ folder to your web server plugins directory which you can find here:

[wordpress directory]/wp-content/plugins/[put fluency here]

Then go into your WordPress admin and go to the ‘plugins’ page, activate ‘Fluency Admin’ and you will instantly be using the theme. Easy as that.

The future

I will do my best to keep Fluency up-to-date with the latest stable version of WordPress. I’ve also got a couple of things in mind to make Fluency even better, and more customisable. But for the moment the main ‘updates’ will be support for additional plugins, to make sure that the plugin admin pages remain completely usable and inline with the rest of Fluency.

Note about plugins

In this initial release I’ve added support for WP-PostRatings to ensure that its options page displays correctly. Over time I’ll continue to add more plugin support so keep an eye out for the updates. And if you have a plugin you would like to see supported then please let me know via the support forum or bug tracker.

Support

If you’ve got any questions about Fluency, you can leave a comment or better yet jump over to the support forum and I’ll do my best to help you out. I’ve also set up a bug tracker, so if you come across something that isn’t quite right post the bug and I’ll look into it.

Donations

Plugins don’t design and code themselves, they take precious time to build, test and support. So if you use and like Fluency Admin, or any of my other work, please consider a donation, there is a link at the top left of this page just below the download link. All donations are greatly appreciated.

  1. Hi Dean,

Great plugin! Unfortunately it borks the media popup with 2.5 and the bottom of the page doesn’t stay at the bottom, it scrolls with the page.

This happens with Firefox 2 on Windows XP and Safari v3.1 on Mac.

Also when writing a post or a page, the “Publish immediately” overlaps the icon to the left.

  2. Thank you for this. 2.5’s admin area gave me a desire to start stabbing things. Like my eyes, for instance. You have saved the day.

  3. Yet another outstanding effort from you Dean! I’ve been using your redouble theme on my personal blog and will now be using this admin theme on all of my wordpress installs.

  4. I can’t tell you how much I love this theme. I abhor the new back-end theme for 2.5. I mean, ABHOR. To the point that I was hesitating to run 2.5. Your admin theme has changed that in every way.

Thanks for your work on this, and your other free themes. It’s community members like you that make wordpress my blogging tool of choice.

  5. Is the issue with an ie6/7 update mainly css or php code or both?

It ‘should’ be only CSS, hopefully most things can be resolved with the usual hacks, but I won’t know for sure until I fire up my Virtual Machine and have a look (hopefully sometime over the weekend)

  6. Is the issue with an ie6/7 update mainly css or php code or both?

Maybe there is a contributor out there who could take on this effort while you maintain the FF2/3 base.

  7. Will you be revamping it to work in ie6/7 as it looks neat in firefox but users still like ie.

  8. Will you be revamping it to work in ie6/7 as it looks neat in firefox but users still like ie.

I will look into it (if you check the bug tracker, its in there), but as I have said if its going to take stupid amounts of time to get it working in IE then..well..we’ll see. I might need incentives.

  9. Does the admin theme work in ie6/7? The tiger admin theme does not.

    Awesome work.

  10. Does the admin theme work in ie6/7? The tiger admin theme does not.

    short answer. no.

slightly longer answer. no, mainly because I based much of the basic on the Tiger admin plugin, secondly because with the shifting around and repositioning of things I couldn’t justify all the extra time that it would take to ‘support’ IE. I might revise that in the future, but I make no promises.

  11. ok, once autosave is done for the first time, the slug editing filed appears.

I think that must be the functionality in WP2.5 (even if it is a bit odd) I’m fairly sure I’m not hiding or disabling anything like that in my stylesheet.

  12. Here’s a screenshot: http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/8853/asdoe0.jpg

If that screen shot is of your admin for geekmadness.net then the reason that its messed up is because you’re not running WP2.5. As explained above Fluency is WP2.5+ only.

  13. @GeekMadness: Disable “Admin Drop Down Menu” or anything like that (if any) and try again?

  14. ok, once autosave is done for the first time, the slug editing filed appears.

  15. and.….oops! hey Dean, where can i give a slug to my new posts??? lol

  16. No screen shots. That’s a shame. :-( But the one image you have up is intriguing. I’ll give Fluency a try once 2.5 is actually released.

  17. incredible plugin(theme). works fine for me.

#1: when u edit the modules in dashboard (changing rss feeds), the input fields are not distinguished from common texts.

#2: and the colors for page navigation under both “manage” and “comments” are incorrect.

suggestions: can give the left main menu a bigger value of line-height, also bigger font-size.

two more tiny bugs have been discovered, was about to write u an email with screenshots attached, since it’s hard to describe all of them, but didn’t get ur email from ur contact page.

it’s nearly perfect! plz keep up the great work! ;)

  18. Just about all my testing was/is done in Firefox 2 on my mac, and the screenshots were also taken in Firefox. Can you please provide a screenshot so I can see the problem in action, either here or in the support forum, and I’ll try and sort it out.

Edit: Also keep in mind that this plugin is only for WP2.5

  19. Not sure how much testing you did, but It’s definately not working great in Firefox. When you go to the Admin CP, and try to go to any tab such as the Options page, they are barely visible. They are clickable, but you can’t see them really.
